A guest room and office had to make room for a nursery, one that needed to be rental-friendly but still very much ours. I began envisioning it the moment I found out I was pregnant.
I built a mood board inspired by her becoming on a birthday trip to Memphis, our neighborhood forest preserves and the wild creatures that live there, my love of willow trees, and the gem of a person I hoped she would be.
When she arrived early, I was determined to finish nesting before bringing her home from the NICU.

Bohemian, jewel-toned, and softly whimsical. A room she could grow into.

I was carrying a lot that season. What I needed most was softness, grounding, and a quiet playfulness, a space to hold me while I held her. Everything from the colors and artwork to the vintage dresser and decor was chosen to give me just that. Every little detail still makes me smile.

A book sits on the shelf with a story about weathering a storm and the softness that comes after. The bunny finds a home with the willow, and they move through the seasons together. My mom chose Willow and Bunny for the willow (Zoey’s middle name) and the bunny (my love of bunnies), not fully realizing how perfectly it would belong in this room.

The dresser is part of a bedroom set that has lasted three generations…now a fourth.
